Hi all, I have a new D40 Traditional in my hands! The pick guard looks slightly hazy. Before I start picking at it with my fingernail, can anyone confirm that a new Guild ships with protective plastic on the pick guard? THANKS.

Welcome to LTG Mark. No answer from me, never bought a new guitar. But lots of love here for the D40

Most new guitars come with plastic on pick guard. Some people peel it off right away, and others leave it on until it starts to come off on its own.

A few years ago I acquired a G & L Legacy which had spent 12 years in its case with the film on the pickguard, now it won't come off, fused completely to the guard! Tried heating with a hairdryer but doesn't work. Any ideas? Great guitar though!

I just had confirmation from Guild that the answer is yes. On my guitar it is cut so precisely that I had to ask. I'll peel it and maybe post a pic. Thanks for all the replies today! Here is a sexy woman genie emoji for no particular reason 🧞‍♀️.

You might try carefully taping around the edges of the pickguard to protect the finish on the wood, and carefully wash the surface of the plastic with a mild solvent like methyl hydrate to dissolve the adhesive.

Yes the D40T has a thin plastic film on the PG. just start in the corner near the neck and use your fingernail to start the peeling process. Then peel away.

Thanks for that, I will give it a try. I suppose the moral of the tale is to take it off when you still can!
