Hi all, I have a new D40 Traditional in my hands! The pick guard looks slightly hazy. Before I start picking at it with my fingernail, can anyone confirm that a new Guild ships with protective plastic on the pick guard? THANKS.
You might try carefully taping around the edges of the pickguard to protect the finish on the wood, and carefully wash the surface of the plastic with a mild solvent like methyl hydrate to dissolve the adhesive.A few years ago I acquired a G & L Legacy which had spent 12 years in its case with the film on the pickguard, now it won't come off, fused completely to the guard! Tried heating with a hairdryer but doesn't work. Any ideas? Great guitar though!
Or a jack hammer?Got a potato-peeler?
Thanks for that, I will give it a try. I suppose the moral of the tale is to take it off when you still can!You might try carefully taping around the edges of the pickguard to protect the finish on the wood, and carefully wash the surface of the plastic with a mild solvent like methyl hydrate to dissolve the adhesive.

I had thought of an oxy/acetylin torch, or maybe an angle grinder!Or a jack hammer?
Stratboy,I had thought of an oxy/acetylin torch, or maybe an angle grinder!
Sounds like a good planStratboy,
A small, exquisitely shaped-explosive charge might work.
Hope this helps.
