What a beautiful instrument. Congratulations, Barbara! I've never played a Lowden but have always been curious.
Thanks for sharing pics.

You bet! It is a fantastic instrument and I'm lucky to have found it. (Thanks to Mandolin Bros.)

Thank you all for the compliments! It is a *stunning* guitar for fingerpicking and alternate tunings. It's so interesting to me that, having played about 20 different guitars at Mandolin Brothers, the Lowden was the one that had my name on it. I played many fine guitars - a great Huss & Dalton that had a very Guild sound to it; a new Guild D-55 from Connecticut; a Collings; several Martins; and a McPherson. I couldn't believe that no one had snatched up that Lowden - but again, that's my own personal and therefore subjective response to the instrument.

Anyway, to answer your questions: Yes, it is cedar top and rosewood back & sides with mahogany binding. This is a somewhat custom model because it has a 1 7/8" nut, abalone rosette and those cool amber-like tuners. The original model has a narrower nut, wood inlay rings for the rosette, and ebony tuners. I think the lower bout is 16 17/32".

I'll try to post a soundclip sometime soon for everyone. :)

Hey Treem,
I have NO IDEA what strings are on it. You know, Mandolin Bros. told me it was just restrung, but I didn't ask! Duh. I'm pretty sure they're light gauge D'Addarios. They gave me an extra set when I bought the guitar.
Ta,

 I guess Mr. Green must be the envious smilie.

Beautiful, Barbara. Have you slept yet or have you just been playing it nonstop? :D

The last guitar that screamed "buy me and take me home" to me got stood back up in the rack. It was a $4K Taylor.

Absolutely beautiful, Barbara.

Congratulations. :D
It's so much fun to find and get a guitar that really sings to you.

Congratulations! When I bought my D25M 20+ years ago I had the chance to buy a Lowden too. I sweated over both for days. The Lowden was great but was a little more expensive (I can't remember now if it was $6XX or $4XX). The Guild was $3XX and sounded great but I have kicked myself many times over not getting the Lowden too. Oh well...

Well, I played a similar Lowden at Lark Street Music about a year ago and have thought about it ever since. That one, an O32-C, sold immediately, and like you, wllee, I was kicking myself.

I have to tell you... my ex-husband is ALSO wllee. That is a little too weird...
