Looking for opinions on what pickups came in 1999 Starfire II. There is a Guild for sale fairly close by, listed as a 1999. I have not yet asked for a picture of the label inside the F-Hole. I know that this is pretty close to the time that Guild used pickups by Seymour Duncan that were placed inside the Guild covers. Sometime near this era Fender made their own pickups for Guilds. This is the only picture I have so far. I have looked at the spacing of the screws but still unsure if these are seymour duncans or fenders. I could ask him to pull the pickups to take a pic underneath but some sellers are hesitant to do such things. Opinions on these pickups?

They appear to be Duncan SD-1 pickups. They are great!

As stated above, they appear to be SD1s. I've been fooled twice by Fender pickups in those rings, so the screw spacing is not 100%. The only way to know 100% (unless Hans has records) is to see the back of the pickups.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. It is a beautiful guitar. It would be a little bit of a drive to take a look at it. I am on the fence about pulling the trigger on it, in that he is asking more than I want to spend right now. I will ask him a couple of other questions. I just don't want to have him go through a lot of homework if I am not truly ready to buy.

that is a beautiful mahogany SF-2! I wouldn't worry about the pickups. They are likely Duncans. If Fenders they maybe could use a little height adjustment, and just find the right strings. Way too much exaggeration online about the Fender pickups. I have heard them sound phenomenal.

As humbucker hater, if they're Fenders then easily replaced by HB sized replacements, anything from P90s to Tele pups to t-armonds to Filtertrons. If they're HB1s or SD1s you're basically stuck with them :)

Why? You can put any standard pickup into an HB1 or SD1 pickup ring.

Ah! I guess that's right. In my case I wanted to fit T Armonds where there is a humbucker sized adapter ring but that was smaller than the HB1 ring. But owing the Guild pickups being wider, won't there be a gap around the new pickup?
