Hi...

I have a Guild GAD-30R that I like a lot. I am looking for a pickup recommendation. I am not looking for anything expensive. I just want to be able to plug it into my small Fender Acoustasonic 15 amp, and into a loop box.

I have no preference on the brand or type. I want something easy to install and that does not require an expensive preamp to work.

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Jim

sounds like u want an active soundhole pickup based on what u wrote. just make sure the one u get is not too big for the Guild soundhole. 99 percent of them *should be fine for a GADF-30R. just make sure. i'd try Fishman or LR Baggs

Thanks. That's the type of pickup I am leaning towards.

Correction, the K&K is a piezo / undersaddle pick that will require a small degree of wood molestation as opposed to a soundhole pickup.

I have had a pickup in that guitar but it quit working. The strap button hole has already been drilled out to accept the jack.

I got a K&K passive mini in my Br and it has never failed to succeed thru a PA system or amp. I don't even use a box to enhanced the sound. No battery, no fuss. Just plug and play. But it's a dread, so maybe that matters...

Add my name to the list of soundhole pickup recommendations. I'm a huge fan of the Fishman Rare Earth Humbucker. But the Baggs M1 is great as well.

One thing I'd recommend is having a qualified guitar tech/luthier drill out the end pin hole, to save you time and worry.

You're halfway there. I would however have a luthier place the piezo portion on the saddle. Personally, I do not trust myself to place it for maximum projection. If it were me.

Since the end pin hole has already been reamed out for a plug, I'll add another vote for the LR Baggs Anthem under saddle pickup like I have on my Breedlove. It sounds amazing and the controls are easily accessed in the soundhole, but not super visible. It's a really good option.

Hi Jim, my favorite pickup system, and I have it in all my gigging acoustics, is the Fishman undersaddle with the Matrix Infinity preamp system. First and foremost, It sounds great and is very dependable. Besides those two very important things to me, I love several of it's features. One, I love the volume/tone controls. They are hidden inside the soundhole. I realize this is not unique, but the Matrix Infinity preamp has a built in body size switch to add bass to a small body guitar. I really love the unique tone control...It doesn't just dial from bass to treble, it actually leaves the bass and treble alone and boosts or cuts the mids only! Remember the Graphic Equalizer "smile", well that is what this is all about. lastly, the preamp resides at the tail strap pin and there is a small red LED bulb on it. When you get down to about a half hour of battery power, it lights up, causing the interior of the body to glow red and warning you it's time to make a battery change...Now that, is well thought out! Check it out!
