Does anyone have pics of Starfire IIIs with the pickguard removed? Does it lead to any problems whatsoever if it is removed?

No pics, but I took the pickgaurd off of every archtop I've ever had, including a SFII, T100, X-50 - well, all the Guild archtops on my signature! I felt they were in my way, I have realtively big hands, and have my right hand pinky hanging down when I play. Except for the holes, no issues. I usually kept the top pickguard screw in without the guard, ala John Lennon. But not one on the side of the body.

However, weirdly, I find my '58 ES-225T to be comforatble with the guard on, so I have not removed it. I don't know why, perhaps because the height is a little different, but it's not really much.

My short answer is "No problems!" - assuming you don't mind the "look" of the holes.

Pretty sure I have pics on some of my reviews.

I generally remove them and have had no issues aside from potentially losing the pick guard since it doesn't fit in the case pocket.

Thanks, The Starfire PG just kinda seems a little in the way. I adapt ok, but just wondered if it was raising another issue to go without it for a while anyway.

I like having a pickguard on the guitar, but if its sitting too high, is warped or the the angle is off then it will bother me.
So I make the adjustments I need so that the pickguard stays.

I don't plant my pinky finger but I do sort of lightly brush the pickguard as an almost unconscious reference point and miss it when its not there.
But then if I had to live without one I'm sure I'd adapt!

One might argue the "look" of the wood is better than plastic - GAD's photos are great examples!

Maybe start a guitar porn thread with pics of guitars that should have a pickguard but don't?

That seems like work. :)

Here's one of my Les Pauls that shipped with a pick guard, but not installed because the top is so pretty. This is a 2014 Made to Measure (MTM) and the neck is *enormous*:
