I suppose either. I will hang mine. There's a drilled hole in the top center to do that.
I bought a different design for a cat lover friend of mine as a gift. Can't remember exactly what it said but something to the effect of "I'd spend all nine of my lives with you". They have designs for your house #, your name, something for your horse barn etc.
