My wife is an electric bass player. She bought me my Guild D-20 as a birthday present. So it isn't one of those deals where the spouse doesn't know anything about it. She's a pretty good multi instrument musician and singer but she is picky about what kind of music she plays and who she plays it with. She just flat doesn't like country/bluegrass.
I wasn't a fan of it either, but I got invited to sit in with a country/ bluegrass jam some time ago and thought that it was an opportunity to play out with other people, to socialize with some other musicians, so I thought that I would give it a chance and see where it went. My wife wasn't interested in country/bluegrass, but it grew on me and now I'm jamming most weekends and doing some less than prime time gigs with some people from the jam. My wife is still very supportive but she isn't interested in participating in it
Honestly, our approaches to music have been very different and we've always been at odds when it comes to to music. We've always been two musicians living together, going in separate directions. She sings on a choral group that I have no interest in being a part of. It has worked for forty two years. It's all good. We enjoy hearing about each other's experiences when one of us gets home from something.
