A gal in my area is selling a Guild guitar her fiance had bought and has kept in storage. She didn't know the model but it appears to be a Peregrine with G-shield headstock but unbound fretboard. Finish color is black. I hope to go take a look in the next couple of days.

Any advice to share on this model? Likes? Dislikes? Value in good condition?

Thanks!

Peregrine Ser # - Hans? Anyone?

i have a serial number now and trying to arrange to see the instrument tomorrow. It would help a lot if I can gather more information about it before tomorrow.

Serial #: 7529069

Black Peragrine (unless there was another model that looked like it), G-shield headstock, unbound neck and headstock, chrome Grover tuners (maybe). They bought it with a gig bag instead of a hardshell case.

Anyone able to help me with more info from this serial number?

Thanks!

Hello Willy,

That's the basic version of the Peregrine called the Peregrine Standard. That particular guitar was made in 1999 in the Nashville Custom Shop. These are nice guitars if you have a use for a 'chambered' solid body guitar to play venues or occasions where feedback might be a problem with a regular acoustic/electric guitar.

Good luck!

I got the Peregrine last night. The neck is straight and it sounds good but has its share of minor cosmetic issues - a couple of lacquer chips and 4-5 dings in the face and some crud on the neck, also a lot of surface scratching. Everything can be repaired and buffed out.

The back of the headstock has the serial number only, doesn't have the Custom Shop labeling. I also do not find any labels on the inside visible from the pickup access. The owner said he picked it up at Guitar Center in Colorado Springs in 2007. They had just rec'd it new, boxed and not in a case though their shipping paperwork said it was sent with a case - thus, no hardshell case for it.

The owner tried to sell it in a garage sale with a sticker on the headstock that said "MAKE OFFER" and apparently didn't get any!

I'll post photos when I get some time.

There are a few cosmetics as you can see in the photos but a little work will go a long way on it. Here's photos

Willy, thanks for posting the pictures. Congrats on an interesting and fairly uncommon acquisition. The "cool" factor on these Peregrines is hard to match.

I totally agree with you that a little TLC will go a long way here. Keep us posted on your progress.

Peregrins are way cool guitars.

I saw one in a store with a custom finish once and though I don't really have need for that type of setup I almost bought it just because the neck was AMAZING!

I just wanted it to sit around and couch noodle on that fabulous neck, but thought better of it. I will always remember THAT particular neck on that particular guitar. It would have been my most expensive guitar: used only for couch noodling unless I completely changed how I gig!

The neck is amazing on this guitar, like my S100 only with great acoustic sound. I have a late 60's Thunder 1 tube amp that hasn't had much use since I sold my T100D in the mid 70's and the Peregrine sounds pretty decent through it.

Another really cool thing about the Peregrine is how light it is and how well balanced it feels on a strap. It really is a blast to play.

I don't believe the electronics are quite right in it. Though it sounds good and has great low end, the two slider controls don't seem to have any real effect. I think the pickup is the Acoustic Matrix Natural - I have the Fishman manual for that off the Guild website but haven't reviewed it yet to see if it's any help. Anyone out there familiar with the two-slider control?

It'll take me a while to get time to fix it up but the pictures will get posted when I do.

I have a Carvin nylon string acoustic/electric that I replaced the blown Fishman Matrix in it with a Natural 1 for economic reasons.

It sounds as good as any piezo-only setup, but does seem to require a bit of outside processing to get the best sound. I use a simple BBE Sonic Stomp, though probably a Baggs preamp would be even better.

That guitar is lent out right now. As much as I like acoustic sounds, I seem to only like strapping on one guitar for a night's gig, and need versatility. A piezo-equipped acoustic seems more "specialty" for the kind of stuff I play.

I'd love a Peregrin though, just to have!
