(I know, yet another capo thread. Honestly, I did some searching first...)

I'm new to the world of partial (Esus) capos. What are you all using for a cut capo on your 12's? I have a Thalia partial pad that works great on my 6 strings, but isn't wide enough for the 12. Interested to hear what you folks recommend.

Back in the stone age, when the about the only capos that worked for 12ers were the ones with double elastics, I had one that I trimmed to cover only the middle four strings, giving me a sort of double D tuning.

This is what I used, or something very similar. This one is from Dunlop.

Coop,

Love my Kyser Gold shorty. On my D212. Bit of a stretch to cover the low G. But it does cover. If you have any Kyser capo, flip it up side down and try it. I did that way until I broke down and bought a Kyser Short Cut.

Our member @wileypickett is someone who uses partial capos a LOT along with all his different tunings. Not sure what he's up to over this holiday weekend, but if he doesn't chime in, you might PM him. I think he makes his own or customizes others. Worth an ask......

Thanks Tom!

What I'm doing over the holiday weekend is making four custom partial capos for folks in Scotand, the UK, the US and Canada!

I make three-string and four-string partial capos for guitar, and two-string partial capos for banjo. The three- and four-string capos barre the bottom three or four strings on the guitar. The two-string partial banjo capo barres the lower the third and second strings below the 5th string tuner, and the fourth and third strings above the tuner -- it skips the outer string in other words.

The partial capo I find most versatile and get the most orders for is the one that barres only the lower three strings. No commerically made capos do this. The only capo I've found that works reliably when you cut that much off the capo finger is one I buy from China and modify. It works because it closes above the strings, not behind the neck. (I ruined dozens of capos before I found one that worked!)

At this point I've made about 70 partial capos for people all over the world. If anyone is curious, write me at gkjones1@comcast.net and I'll send you my info sheet.

For me they're complete game-changers -- on my album *Fleeting*, every song utilizes a partial capo.

Cheers!

Do you use these partial capos with open tunings?

Glenn does, and I can vouch for his capos. Top notch

I'm pretty sure Glenn has mentioned many times that he left standard tuning land many years ago. So yes, he does. And sounds amazing doing it, too!!

Hi There, I found this one a paige 12 string Capo, does the job brilliantly on my Guild F-412. I tried a few, this is the best! I know it's full job, NOT a partial, but it's a synch to quickly slide back over the nut and let it sit there until needed!
