Was traveling to Austin to see John McLaughlin play and thought I’d drop off at a vintage guitar store. Loads of rare Guilds in this place and to my shock got to play a D-100 and the D-130 that was topic of discussion in the group a few weeks back. Wasn’t a tonal dud as I was lead to believe but the D-60 and a M-20 ate it for lunch. Still a cool piece. Wished I had the bread for that M-20 though, lot of punch and had a classical type zing in the notes decay but luckily I was able to survive the visit without walking out with something I didn’t need by some miracle. Cool shop.

It may or may not have put a monkey on my back for a good archtop. I owned a bunch of Kay’s that weren’t particularly loud but that Artist Award hit like a Mack truck as well as some old Gibsons. Not dreadnaught loud but had a sweet tone to it.

Austin always worth a stop and the impression I got of AVG over the phone was very positive. Texas before the internet used to be a goldmine for vintage gear. I'm still sorry I passed on a fine and frugally priced M-75 CS about thirty years ago, but the trunk was full with 1970s Gibsons bought on the cheap..

Isn't that a DV72 among the dreadnaughts? (Looks like a great shop!)
The rough one that was posted about last week. That center strip kinda bulges a bit so it kinda scared me a bit but maybe an easily corrected issue.

Oddly enough the D-100 wasn’t the best sounding in the bunch. D-60 also ate it for breakfast it seemed as well as plain Jane M20. The AA and a Cromwell Gibson archtop has given me an archtop itch now….oops. I may head back down there and see if that Cromwell ain’t still there once I get done thinning out my herd considerably. That or be a proud owner of the D-60 since I can’t seem to stop singing my praises for it.
