Pachelbel's Canon in D

The tune that orchestral string players hate the most.

Aggghhhh.... not another wedding gig .... agggghhhh!

A young Aussie string player takes revenge.

So I found myself sitting around a campfire with some folks and was just noodling whilst people were talking. Thought no one was paying attention and started playing Pachebel just because I was working out some variations and was going to be playing it at a wedding a few months away. Almost immediately a woman turned to me and said " What are we at a wedding?"

Poor Pachelbel!

My possibly ill-informed understanding is that the Canon in D was not intended as a performance piece. It is too simple for that. A "canon" in this context is a model. The Canon in D was student piece intended as a model to teach methods of orchestration to his students.

This one is similar.

It shows the inanity of so many of the "plagiarism" hara$$ment law $uit$ that $uce$$ful musician$ are $lapped with in the hope of a lucrative out of court $ettlement with fat fee$ for the lawyer$.

I read an article recently where a couple of computer scientists set a computer to work compiling every possible melody with a 12 tone scale and then tried to copyright them all, not to limit the creativity of musicians working with the fundamental lego pieces of music but to block nuisance law suits - "You can't sue because we own the melody and we freely give consent for its use" kind of thing. I should go look for the article again.
