I've recommended him here a few times. I bought the album "Truth is not Fiction" based on hearing one tune, "Past Times" on the locall PBS jazz station one morning, and discovered the first CD I'd ever heard whose sound quality outclasses vinyl. Especially in the bass.
"Past Times" has some magnificent understated leads, and there's another cut, I forget which one at the moment, which evokes the live interplay between Jack and Jorma in early '67. I think it's "Shakie's Gone". Anyway, BUY that album!
This guy deserves a LOT more recognition. 8)

Phenomenal. Excellent post. I'm ashamed to admit that when I saw the title I immediately thought of #89 Otis Taylor from the 1969 Kansas City Chiefs Superbowl champs.

or for the real die hard 69 superbowl highlights of old #89 (only .59 seconds)

Thanks for introducing me to Otis Taylor the banjo player. I really enjoyed his personality and his music.

Otis plays good mandolin or guitar , also. Definitely a unique, tasty sound.

Thanks Joe...but I don't know when I'll take a vacation. I was given a golden opportunity here at work about 6 years ago, but it involved moving to a pure commission type pay structure. NO paid vacation time. (although other benefits are very good). I COULD take as much time off as I wanted as long as sales budgets were being made.....but part of my deal is that I get fed most of the new leads and about once a month it's a BIG one that helps me make budget and has kept me employed through this last big panic.... 8) All that has enabled me to play "catchup" from many years of low but steady pay. And a couple of years of selling cars.
So, have been very reluctant to miss any of those, especially over the last couple of years.
My standing joke is that I take my vacations by coming in late when I feel like it. And sometimes I make a 3-day weekend into a 4-day.
