Notice - not all condencer mics are better than dynamics - there's much more to it.

When I have to amplify my guitars without pickup I use my AKG C411PP.

markus :)
Sure, a nice option. But in my case, I am thinking more about situations where a mic might cause problems.
Of course you can always use another guitar, maybe even buy one that already has a pickups and is meant for being played live, something that is less special. But on the other hand, you might like your special guitar just better. :D I actually bought another guitar with a pickup in it, but the Orpheum just plays and sounds better.

Someone's signature here reads : Life itself is special occasion - always use best china!" - hope I remember that right.

When I was young and took the train through Siberia to Japan - I took my 1977 F-512 with me. Perfect travel guitar.

It has been around the globe - has some nicks & dings - but still stays in tune and sounds wonderful.

Made to be played - they say.

So go for it. Experiment w different pups until you find the one you like. Your guitar - your ears - you're the player.

Well again, I am with you and I am not.
First of all, in this case I don't really need help, but I am interested in others opinions and choices. I don't have seen a topic like this before (of course I might be wrong), but it's something that already bothers me for quite some time.
The funny thing is: I have my Orpheum now for about 6-7 years and have not yet installed a pickup. But I have seen quite a few Orpheums for sale that had a pickup installed. So, there seem to be people out there who did it for one reason and another. And now that I am looking for another Orpheum I noticed that this might be a deal breaker to me or a chance to just live with it as I can't go back anymore anyway. 😄
Regarding the tool: If one instrument feels like home, it might make you play better. And I think it does make sense to bring a guitar like that with you to a live gig too. You want to feel good - especially in front of an audience.
If you're looking for another Orpheum and you have seen them with pickups installed, why not buy one with the pickup in it then have one with the pickup, that required no alteration on your part, and one without?

Made to be played, they say. You're right. Now that's a great post that got me thinking... Thank you!

I thought about this too. ;)
