In the last year or so I've acquired two 12 fret Orpheums, both great instruments. I do have a question about strap buttons. The dread does have a button in the heel area. the OOO doesn't. Just curious if that was how they came or if someone installed the button on the dread. Can't remember who I bought it from, or I'd ask him!

At some point the policy in NH was that the factory only installed strap buttons in the heel area (or anywhere else) if the instrument had factory electronics. One reason given was that marketing decided people who bought electronics played standing up whereas pure acoustic players sat down. The other reason was there was usually an extra block (holding a battery pouch?) in the neck area with factory electronics and that made placement and installation easier. I'd guess that was the policy for Orpheums but I have been known to guess wrong :)

My OOO slothead 12-string didn't have a neck strap button. It came only with a tail pin.

Like mine. I still wonder if the dread's heel button was original or added. Neither has pickup, factory nor after market.
