I can’t recall ever owning one like this. The outside of the case has kind of a speckled finish.

The rust on the latch and similarity to other cases makes me wonder if it is heavily mildewed? I'll ask the question but it looks "uniform" in a way that suggests it was deliberate so probably not.

Tough question...I also saw them in that style case in 1963, but that was an early case.

But after looking at this 1965 one I'd say say the one you have is definitely original as it uses the same latches, same fabric outside and looks the same inside with just a new color for 1966. (changed from red to blue)

It's wild and scary how my pics are - out there - good enough to be reference actually. I had a shock the other day when I saw an ad for the red one - Mahogany body - I had. I freaked, like, wt, I still have the ad up?

It was the person who bought it from me, selling it with my pics, which is a total no no, especially without asking, but then I thought, just let it go, the text was theirs, and they were decent pics of the guitar, and at the end of the day, it's about the guitar.

Look at the end/s of the top of the case, there's a hold down pad that goes across, never seen in a Fender case. Both my Guild cases have/had it.

The Blue and Red combination is striking. I would have, should have kept this one, but it was heavier and bassier, and maybe not as pretty, but that had the Mahogany grunt that the pretty sounding Alder lacks.

Also, the neck was flat out chunky just below the nut, bordering on U shaped. The Alder '65 pictured in the above post by SFIV1967 is SA-134.

Both these guitars came from SoCal, on eBay at the same time virtually, both sitting under a bed for years, both sold with Tremars and hardcases, they lived just hours away from each other, Clovis and Arcadia California.

100% original, that speckled finish is/was on both mine.

Tarnish on the latches does not mean mildewed in any way. So very lucky that both the cases came to me smelling of nothing but old guitar case, instead of that drier sheet stench that passes for what smells "fresh" these days.

Both mine came from the California coast, salt air. The one closer to the coast had more surface corrosion, like cars would.
