One Guild in 40 years, then 2 in a month

It was quite the little fruit producing town: apricots, cherries and plums (prunes) , in fact for about 80 years the Santa Clara Valley produced something like 80% of the nation's production of those 3 fruits. Has something like 1/4 of the top 1% quality of arable land on the planet. It was wall-to-wall orchards when we came in '60. Sadly, just about all the orchards are gone now. Silicon Valley demanded housing and pavement for its commuters.kakerlak said:

At one time San Jose was the prune capital of the world. Before this area was called Silicon Valley it was called Blossom Valley.

I was raised in San Leandro and spent most of my adult years in Livermore. I don't know if you knew or heard of Warren Nunes. I took lessons from him when he lived in Hayward. He started out by teaching out of his basement. What a player. I just couldn't figure out how he played so fast with those huge "Kanaka" hands.

Hey Rwmol; I have heard of Warren Nunes but I don't know from where. Is he still playing around the area?

Regrettably, Warren is no longer with us. He is, arguably, one of the most unrecognized jazz artists of recent times. He put together just one CD, "Half Moon Bay". Its still available. Check it out on Amazon. There's a number of reviews by his students and others.
He also published a couple of instructional books. I just purchased his "Jazz Guitar Chord Bible". Fascinating.
