Hide, you said the last few years were unsettling, leadership wise. Judging by my '98 DV52, the quality was still there (although it did have some loose back bracing, which I'm told was not an uncommon occurance).
My question is this: Were there old stocks of select wood that were used up during the last few years, or was it just business as usual, i.e., a steady flow of materials with no special attention to wood selection? Did the choicest woods go to Nashville for the custom shop? Was a bunch of wood sent on to Corona from Westerly?
