When the finish finally cracks around an old pickguard (one that has been finished over), and the thing finally peels off to reveal the bare wood underneath, the guard can be a bit warped around the edges..curving down somewhat towards the guitar top. So, when you finish that bare wood with laquer is there anyone that has put that same pickguard back on the top over the new laquer? Does anyone have a tried method of flattening out the original pickguard so it will make good contact with the top? Heating it with something flat weighted on top sounds like a possibility, but I certainly don't want to melt it! Anyone done this with success? I'd really like to use the original rather than make a copy.
