It started last Saturday night. The oldest daughter was visiting, and brought along this friend. Nice guy, very quiet. I find out he's into tropical fish so I invite him down to The Wreckroom to see my tank.

He admires the aquarium and then glances over to the guitar cases sitting next to the pool table and asks what I've got. I pull the Guild out of its case and hand it to him.

He was good. LOVED the D40! And I got a chance to hear it being played from the front. Great fun.

I bought my Guild sometime in the 70's (don't remember when exactly - for some reason those years sometimes seem a little fuzzy, ya know what I mean?). Throughout the years I'd pick it up and play once in a while, but really wasn't dedicated. The list of songs I'm gonna learn one of these days just kept getting longer.

So now I’m getting back into it. Stumbled across this forum, read a few hundred of the posts – looks like a good place to hang around. A little insanity seeping through is good for the soul.

Reading the thread about Utah Phillips was a trip down memory lane. Interestingly enough, when I finally got my guitar back I let my fingers just roam around looking for a song. The first one that came out was “Queen of the Rails”.

Thanks, everyone!

I thought the name appropriate. My finger style could best be described as someone playing wearing ski gloves. While seriously drunk. Underwater. You might be able to simulate the sound by playing an out-of-tune guitar with your feet.

But with the help of the D40 and a few martinis I manage to sound fantastic! You just can’t imagine the looks of awe I get when playing! Everyone is silent with envy (except the dogs, who whimper a lot).

Ain’t it great to be a living legend!

BluesDan, the other case is my old, beloved beat-up B25 Gibson (that’s the case in my avatar). I lent her to a friend once, got her back in two pieces. Carpenter’s wood glue isn’t the most professional repair, but she still plays pretty OK. She’s traveled many a mile with me and has a lot of memories.

That’s all of my collection at the moment. It looks like I have a lot of catching-up to do, huh? Something tell me you guys are going to be a bad influence!

That Gibby B25 would certainly be worth the coin to get a pro repair, I think they still fetch upwards towards the 2K number.

As for the influence of LTG?? I joined in July of '07 looking for information on my ONLY Guild guitar at the time........my signature pretty much says it all!

Welcome thumbs, settle in and have some fun, kick your shoes off, relax your mind.

Seems your daughter's friend is smart x 2...he's smart enough to be a friend of your daughter and smart enough to know a great guitar when he hears it. jgm

Welcome to LTG 5thumbs.

There is a guy on AGF that goes by tenthumbs. You wouldn't be his half-brother would you?

No relation; it just means he plays twice as good as me :!:
