Looks like somebody stuck it in a freezer for a couple hours then brought it out to an August sun-filled beach.

"How?" is a great question! In a damp basement for years? The seller's quote "has some age cracking" may be the understatement of the year...

Salty Ol' Dread

Aye, she's a sight now and hard on the eye
She rode the high seas wit' honor an' pride
'Cross oceans so deep an' journeys so wide
Seein' more places than most men a' tried
Salt spray crackin' nigh all a' 'er hide
She wears the scars a' storms an' a' tide
An' many 's the lad who warmed 'er backside
But, m' lads all good things do come to an' endin'
It hurts us t' say it, but no use pretendin'
If she stops soundin' pretty --
Like a blushin' youn' bride
Put 'er on the veranda wit' ivy inside

I dunno, I kinda like it! Reminds me of The Picture Of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. About the fellow who sells his soul for eternal youth and has a bewitched portrait painted of him. As he grows older the portrait ages and he stays the same...... UNTIL..... (ominous diminished chord here)

They made a killer movie version in the 50's.

I used to like my martinis about that dry!

Holy cow, where was that stored, in the trunk of a black car in the desert for years?

Used to?

The ultimate in dry martinis was only available for a limited time in the 1950's when above ground nuclear testing still occurred and the effects of radiation were little understood. You made a dry Atomic Martini by placing a bottle of vermouth at Ground Zero. After the test, you held the gin bottle about two feet above the glass or shaker and just poured it through the atmosphere.
