Yay! My truck is paid off, Ma Dread's Escape has been paid off for a while.

My truck is an '09 Nissan Frontier 4WD and it only has 71,000 miles on it. It still looks almost new. It's not huge but it is big enough. Crew cab.

Key word is "reliable". We've had a couple vehicles of late that have been in and out three different shops - one of which was the dealer - with dubious results. Good mechanics are next to impossible to find, so much so that I'm tempted to become one myself.

So, dread, you had this truck financed for 12-13 years? Is that common for trucks? I've never heard of such a loan for passenger cars. Just curious. And, anyway, congratulations!

Congrats . . . I assume that you bought it used just a few years ago? Very low miles for its age is a nice bonus.

My 2004 Nissan Frontier has been paid off for many, many years, and it only has 109,000 miles on it!! It's almost like new. What a great little truck!! It would be better with the six-cylinder because it has a four, which gets the same mileage with less power, but still. Congrats, dread!! (y)

Sad to say that my wife's 2003 Toyota Highlander with its peeling paint and 145,000 miles on it has been a money pit all along.

My frontier has been very reliable. The only thing I've replaced are the brakes and tires. Needs a new battery now too.

Wow pretty unusual for a Toyota.
Yeah, my 2013 FJ has really held up well, which I really need it to do up here in North Idaho....

That’s a glorious feeling. I recall when I bought a new vehicle from the dealer one time, and after the last payment made some 5 years later how it felt so good. Also vowed to never buy brand new again! Ugh I hated the payments, the higher fees for insurance and registration, worrying about door dings and all that. So lo and behold I still have that vehicle 30 years later, garaged, maybe sell it? Anyway I digress, my other everyday rides are used that I maintain myself, keeps the costs down and helps reduce the number of my monthly bills.

Speaking of monthly bills, now counting down the days till I make my last mortgage payment, and hoping I can enjoy not having that monthly bill for the subsequent 30 years :). (an outside chance; to do so I gotta live 36.5 more years)

Not really. Toyota has the most recalls of any car maker.

Toyota has a huge recall record, most serious was the Tacoma frames. Toyota replaced hundreds of thousands of them. Frames, brake lines etc. Free!!

The late 80's 4 cylinder Camrys were known to be oil starved and would fail. Again thousands replaced free. My friend had one, engine croaked, he was unaware of the issue, needed the car, dealer replaced engine...$4,500. He was griping to me a few weeks after the fact. I told him it was a known, (to a car freak like me pre internet), issue.

He wrote Toyota, included the receipt and he came to my office a few weeks later with this astonished look on his face. The sent him $4,500!!!

But for some reason you never hear about it do we? Advertising $$?
