Good morning
Sorry Tom, I didn't mean to step on anybody's toes by calling this a "snobbish attitude"... What I was trying to say is that I presume there seems to exist some kind of code amongst guitar players to dislike this song, and this code has the function to distinct the "true" guitar player from the wannabe showoff kids. And wherever such codes develop to classify into "inside and outside", snobism lurks around the corner. But maybe I'm wrong?
Of course anyone has the right to like or dislike songs for (almoust) whatever reason.
What I totally get though is when you evolve aversions out of personal experiences, such as Grassdog did. Things like this can totally ruin even the best songs!
Ok, I'll play along:
There are a couple of Queen songs that I originally liked a lot, such as "Killer Queen", "Play The Game" or "One Vision". Now one beautiful day many years ago, I let myself be persuaded by a woman I loved to attend the musical "We Will Rock You". It was terrifyingly awful, I don't even know where to start. I disliked the storyline, the costumes, the loudness (normally I like it loud!), the audience, the acting, the dancing, the singing, the location, just everything. Actually that was no surprise, I never liked musicals much, but I thought hey let's give it a try, maybe this will change my mind? It did not.
But the worst part were the songs themselves, especially the ones sung in German. A mutilation of Queens epochal work, in every sense.
To make a long story short: Everytime I stumble upon something Queen-related, this traumatising experience comes to mind and spoils everything.
For those of you who whish to partially understand my pain, here is the album on spotify. Highly recommended are the songs with the annotation "deutsche Version". Caution: This might ruin your day
