That's purdy!

Thanks for the heads up (not that I'm in the market, but I'd like to see it in person just to say I was in the same room). Might have to sneak out to Gryphon today. 8)

There is a very nice Artist Award at Gryphon Music In Palo Alto CA for $4195. Burst finish, pristine condition. see

Nice price compared to others on ebay ($6K-$8K)

Those AAs sure are pretty. I went to see this one over the weekend (slideshow of crappy cell phone pics here). It was gorgeous, but I just couldn't rationalize owning it and the X175 so I passed. Hard to believe, huh?

That is a fair price but there is no description of CONDITION on there. That's weird. Maybe they forgot?

Also, 1970's and early 80's AA's still have those fab DeArmond 1100 RC pickups installed on them. For 4k I'd wait for one of those. They come around pretty often..

As it turns out I did sneak off to go play it today (ostensibly to get some new fingerpicks).

It's showroom mint! Hardly a fingerprint. No nicks, pickmarks, or wear.

'Scuse me while I gush: IT'S BEAUTIFUL in person, has low action (nickel 12's feels like), doesn't buzz or have any sympathetic trash going on (unlike the pu springs on my Savoy), and sounds wonderful acoustically (I didn't plug it in: were it mine I'd string it with flatwounds and likely never plug it in except initially to check).
It is not loud (needs waking up with maybe some bronze strings) but has a well balanced tone with no harshness at all, and decent sustain.

But here's the part I like: it is the state-of-the-luthiers-art, as far as precision and perfection of form and detail.

I have gotten used to seeing custom luthiered archtops that have maybe a bit of imprecision in the inlays, etc (Triggs and Benedetto's early stuff seemed crudely done to me, compared to say, a Gilchrist).

I don't know what Bob Benedetto "refined" when he signed on with Guild, but it wasn't attention to detail. This thing seems flawless to me (yeah, it ain't loud acoustically, but it has a nice voice for chord solos).

It would be the grail for me were I in the hunt for something this high end.

Steve sez: two thumbs up, check it out!

We now return you to the regularly scheduled de-programming. :)

Then someone grab it! 4k is nothing for a minty hand-carved 17" archtop. The Guild Artist Award is an under-appreciated, undervalued, wonderful guitar!

Gorgeous burst, and I agree that it's good price if >This thing seems flawless to me (yeah, it ain't loud acoustically, but it has a nice voice for chord solos).< then I think it's a good deal. If I didn't have one and a couple of custom guitars on order I'd be real interested-I have no good sunburst guitars.

Well said Steve, and that one has one of the nicest burst spray jobs I've laid eyes on. I'm guessing it won't last long at that price.

I wish I needed it.

If I did I'd sell my wife's car to get it!

Absolutely NOTHING wrong with it at all in my book! And the price is NO reflection on anything about it.

Here is a still new blonde AA from the 1990's: http://www.gbase.com/gear/guild-artist-award-1997 Does anyone have a clue as to the price of this beauty?
No, but It's been listed there for a looooong time, Steve. Sure is purty though!
Yes. I found out they want way more than 4k for the blondie. It will still be there 5 years from now.

I got my two Benedetto/Guilds when Fender pulled the plug. My guitar store (a Fender dealer in LA) got me both blond guitars for around 3k each, still in their boxes right from the warehouse. If I had been flush I would have bought the sunbursts as well but my wife would have left me.

This sunburst is a good deal. I hope someone here grabs it.

Well bought! Too bad about the money thing. You could always find another wife.

I couldn't!

34 years ago she was the only gal on either coast who didn't right away say, "You're SICK!"

We were married immediately!

'Course, NOW she knows better.

There's no way on earth I could ever expect to find anyone who, like my wife, would look across the room in College English, spy me, and say, "Now THERE's a project!"

And the general intellectual sloppiness and designer "Slob-Wear" clothes...

...She sure can pick 'em out of a crowd: great eye for dysfunction.

As a matter of fact, she DID think I had a great head of hair (joke on her: NOW, and pretty quickly after marraige)!

Ah, but does she still love it when you button your shirts crooked?

Who can still button their shirts?

That's why it's called "Slob-Wear." Once it was perma-press. Now, if you want the wrinkles out: button it!
