OK, I figured I would roll them both out at the same time to avoid two NGD posts. I was able to acquire the 12 string in mid January and as some of you know I recently was able to land the 6 string in the last week. Here is what we are looking at.
2014 Guild 000-12 Fret Slot Head 12 String Short Scale Orpheum with an Adirondack top with Rosewood back and sides in a beautiful Teardrop Sunburst Finish. According to Ralf's research this is one of around ten that were made and the only 12 string RW model to have the sunburst finish. All I can say about this guitar is WOW! I play it tuned down 1/2 a step and the tone is just Luscious. It rings true like all of my Orpheums with amazing response to the lightest touch and sustain that seems never ending. It excels at finger picking and Thumb strumming but don't let the size fool you, When you put a pick to this guitar you can blow the windows out of the room. This is my Favorite 12 string of all my 12 strings. Any marks you see in the pictures are reflections. It is immaculate and I feel very blessed to be able to play her. For reference this is the one with the Sunburst finish in the photos.
The second is a 2014 Guild 000-12 fret 6 string Short Scale Orpheum with an Adirondack top and Mahogany back and sides in a beautiful natural finish. The top on this guitar is just Stunning and the photos don't do it near the justice it deserves. There is almost a 3-D effest of silking going on in between the Grains of the Adirondack. It also has some Bear claw marks running through different areas of the top as well. The Mahogany Back and sides are beautifully Grained on this one. Tone wise this is n Awesome guitar. It is almost a mix of the best attributes from the Orpheum Jumbo with the string response of the 12 fret slope dread. It has a wonderfully Sweet midrange tone to it with smooth and creamy highs and just the right amount of Bass response. It also has the same amazing string response I have come to expect from the Orpheum line. Great for finger picking and thumb strumming but it also shines with a pick. This is a very versatile guitar and I bonded with it immediately! This guitar is the Natural finished one in the photos.
One thing I have noticed on the Orpheums is after around 2 hours of playtime they start to loosen up a little. By ten hours of playtime they are really getting settled in and at around 25-30 hours of playtime they seem to sound their best. This has been true on pretty much all of my Orpheums. I already think they sound amazing when new so for me they just get better with time.
As far as recording Audio, I am sure I will get to it eventually but I am not in any hurry right now. I am concentrating what time I can play with my shoulder to playing and writing as opposed to recording.
Now on to everyone's favorite part, The photos of the two new additions!
the Natural finish is the 6 string Hog and the Burst finish is the Rosewood 12 string, Enjoy!
