Musician's Fiend was blowing these out a couple a days ago. They had them marked down from $1399 to $499. So what the heck, I jumped on it. It's the Hagstrom '67 Viking II reissue. This model was in the Elvis biopic and in the King's '68 Comeback Special.
First impressions; the pickups really stand out as awesome, especially in humbucking mode. The coil split sounds good but the coil split feature is probly only useable in the neck and middle position. The bridge pickup is strong in humbucking mode, but in coil split mode it sounds too wimpy. Fit and finish are tight. The style and trim are kitschy in a mid '60s European electric guitar kind of way. But the guitar plays and sounds great. Will have to spend another $200 if I want the hardshell case.
For $499, or even more, it's a keeper.
