I just picked up a 2012 D50 made in the New Hartford factory. This thing was a bit of a mess when I got it. The pickup had been ripped out and I assume the action not readjusted so it was so low as to be unplayable. The saddle was also too thin so it was leaning forward. I temporarily shimmed the saddle up and wrapped it in tape so it wouldn’t lean. A new nut and saddle is on the way. The nut slots were also cut way too low so I filled and recut as a temporary fix until the new one arrives. Oh, and the truss rod cover was MIA.
The tuners have been changed out to rotomatics (not a fan) so I have a set of Gotoh SE700’s on the way. Lots of finish checking but that’s no big deal.
Now that it’s actually playable it sounds fantastic. I’d choose it over any D28 I’ve played.
It’s really satisfying to bring a mistreated guitar back to life. I should have all the new parts on it by middle of next week.
