This one was and wasn't a surprise. Either way a great sounding classical! I've had a few Guild classical guitars over the years including a Mark IV (pear body), Guild Alhambra C3(mahogany body), CCE100 and C100E(both routed one piece mahogany bodies) and this not at all typical mahogany topped classical with mahogany body is now my favorite. I know it was considered Guild's entry level guitar but it has such a unique rich tonally blended sound for a nylon strung guitar. The body is so light and resonate. The bass is more rich as is the treble response, not muddy. Since playing this guitar it made me realize that I was making a mistake putting my D-15-12 up for sale and pulled it down. A mahogany top on a 12 string is even more wonderful, what was I thinking? I'm sure M-20 owners will know what I mean.
It is a real shame Guild stopped making Mark I in the early 70's, along with the original M-20's. This one is a 1963 model (birth year guitar) with some scratches on the top along with a repaired top crack but is other wire in good shape. (please excuse the picture quality)
