Yippee, gotta burst.

A fellow member reached out to me a few weeks back offering up his as I had been looking for one for a while.

Could not have worked out better. Price was more than fair and to top it off, instead of shipping, he was in the vicinity of Hofstra. I happened to be there this weekend for my Freshman daughters Parents Weekend.

My really tight schedule and the thought of returning late back to the hotel to grab my wife to get to the morning events could have complicated matters but he offered to come to the hotel and personally deliver.

Guitar is all he claimed but the best part of the weekend was meeting Billy Budapest. Just a super guy and I truly enjoyed the half hour or so chat we had. I could have pestered him with questions all day

Very interesting career he has led. Envious.

Also, as he is a much better photographer than I allow me to use his pix: P.S. Looks a lot like Cougars JF-30-12 sans ebony fret board

Thank you sir! Will meet again.

OMG, that's just simply beautiful! Is that some bearclaw in that top? What's the backside look like? I like that look a lot, congrats, HNGD!

I think you're seeing reflection, Boneman... But, anyway, that is beautiful! Congrats, beecee.

Not too bad.

According to BB this was made early in the Corona era from Westerly parts. CT00080

Sure has a nice feel to it up around the headstock while going from E to G.

I played it back to back to back with my D-40 and D-55.

I dare anyone to find three better sounding guitars in these tonewoods...I really lucked out!

BTW, those are shadows at the treble side of the sound hole and the 45 degree angle "thinggy" is not a crack.

Along with having a superbly beautiful burst, it has a '70s shaped pickguard, which I love, as opposed to the flat & wide bottomed pickguards frequently seen in the '90s (including on my own '94 JF-30). Your purchase patience really paid off, as that is a wonderful score - Major Congrats!

He definitely got a good one. I owned the guitar for a little more than 10 years. Some days I would just sit and stare at the top, which was utterly mesmerizing. There is indeed some bearclaw, but also a three-dimensional "waviness" to the wood that almost looks like tiger's eye - a golden/red-brown color with a lot of lustre. And around the upper bout is a deep red that is totally striking. As I told Beecee, it's probably the best looking sunburst I've ever seen.

The guitar plays and sounds mighty fine as well. Great action.

We had a terrific time sitting and chatting. Beecee is a pleasure to know and most generous with his potatoes, too!

You captured it well in the photo, as I thought it was evident, and it could not have been easy parting with it, because what a great piece that is. Thanks for sharing!

Ok.....I wasn't going to bring it up but you really need to clarify that statement.

A picture may be helpful.

I do hope you tried them!!

Much to my surprise, Beecee came bearing gifts - souvenirs from his hometown. You wouldn't think potatoes would fit prominently in that equation, but you'd be wrong!

My copy of the pic is too low-res to post but I give you permission to give it a world premiere and perhaps add a short disquisition on the topic.

The right occasion to indulge has not yet availed itself, but I am sure looking forward to it...! 👨‍🍳
