I always was intrigued by the recent J 185
Actually, the J-185 is my overall favorite guitar. It's small-jumbo combination of a 16" body size, narrow waist, 24.74" scale, and maple body are the perfect fit for me both tonally & in terms of playability. Mine is a 2012, and it does not disappoint in any way.
The closest Guild equivalents in body size would primarily be the Westerly F-40 (also a personal favorite) & F-47, with a key difference being their longer scale length.
Of course with any given model, there will be winners & losers re tone. But to develop a frame of reference, I would certainly encourage trying them out when the opportunity arises!
