After initial unsuccessful attempts to contact the seller, some back and forth price negotiations, 3 weeks shipping time via USPS, and an evaluation and setup, I finally got this one home, and boy was it worth the wait.

Near-mint condition, gorgeous, and it sounds and plays beautifully.

I don’t consider the GF55 a renamed GF60. They are too different.

The GF60R is, however, a renamed F46.

Other than cosmetics how are they different?

Very nice - also included were some feet - so a copy of 3rd pic is now found in another thread here in LTG 🥰

There are many differences between them, although their size and dimensions appear identical (I did not measure).

For example, the headstock (GF60R has a snakehead), fretboard inlays (diamond v. block + triangle), neck (1 piece vs. 3 piece), neck heel (GF60’s is much narrower), rosette (GF60R has herringbone), binding (beige vs. white), and purfling (different patterns).

Reflections don’t count. And if you have any tips on how to photograph the back of a rosewood guitar to show the wood grain patterns without reflection (with an iPhone), I am all ears.

My feet are beautiful, by the way, and are greatly admired in the Let’s Talk Feet forum. 🦶🦶

How about things like bracing, wood, necks, and most importantly sound. I know it’s a small sample size but do the play and sound much different in your opinion?

What was that, again?

Seriously, I doubt I will be selling this one, but I am selling my D60 from the same year, which is the dreadnought version of this guitar. Natural top with the same appointments. If interested, send me a PM.

I don’t completely trust any of the resources that describe these models (and I don’t intend to document them myself), but from what I have read they both have scalloped bracing. Both have EIR back and sides, and Spruce tops.

The neck on the GF55 does feel a bit beefier. The GF60 weighs 5.0 lbs, and the GF55 weighs 5.5 lbs, although the GF55 has a K&K installed in it.

The GF55 is probably due for a string change, and the GF60’s strings are brand new, so most tonal differences are probably attributable to the strings.

Having said that, the GF60 seems to have a darker, warmer tone, and the GF55 is a bit punchier. Both sound awesome.

I wonder if any other Guilds got 7-layer bindings (W-B-W-B-W-B-W) like this. I don't know; that just jumps out at me when I look at the body pictures. Really works nicely with the burst (IMO). I'm probably wrong, but that just didn't look like a normal Guild feature.

Already have a D 60...How about I'll trade you my Natural Top G 60 for your SB , and I'll buy the D 60 along with the trade.
I have two F 46 NT's so the GF 60 SB would be a real nice addition ...

Thanks, but no thanks. I have been specifically looking for a burst GF60.

And the only reason I am selling the D60, which is a great guitar, is to acquire the Johnny Cash sunburst variant.

Is your GF60 an R or an M? If an R, what are the differences between a GF60R and F46? I know that the type of tuners changed at some point, but that may not have occurred with the model name change. I also seem to recall reading that the diamond inlays are larger on the F46.

The appointments are identical on the D60, Chaz, including the purfling. Remember, this is a Gruhn-era guitar, and he introduced many features that were unique from prior and subsequent Guild regimes.

Here a quick shot taken with iPhone SE - old model. Trick is to arrange light so that you are in darker place than the guitar - in this case I was kneeling on green rug and had lamp aiming at guitar from side.

p.s. - I did not write anything about the beauty aspect of your feet . . . 🥰

DUDE where are you finding all these SB's?!?!? find one for me and I'll pay you a comish!! ;-)

Here is a side by side of the F46 NT on the left and the GF 60 on the right, they are both R. As you can see the head stock is different, I changed the tuners on the F 46 to gold Grovers which is what is on the GF 60. I bought the F46 new from Sam Ash in Manhattan back in 87 and had chrome banjo tuners, when it aged I thought the gold looked better...and they do.
The diamond inlays are bigger on he F 46 and the guitar is smaller all around...that maybe a factory thing. I asked George Gruhn about that and he told me the GF 60's were made after he had left as a replacement to the F 46 , they clearly made some changes.. My son says they sound the same but I like the F46 better...that maybe a bias.

Nice! What are the nut widths and necks like on the 46 vs 60?

The tuners did change with the GF 60's which were built after Gruhn had left Guild...I have another F 46 NT with the original banjo tuners...i'll post pics later..
(BTW ...I'll trade you the F 46 for the SB..HAHA)
