Last week I posted a link to a Craigslist ad for a 1997 X-700 that has a cracked top. Today I am owner of this guitar (serial no.AK700159). The previous owner brought it over and I was hooked. He didn't look like the devil but he may have been. We ended up agreeing on $1000 in cash and my Fender Robert Cray MIM Strat in trade. I've been trying to get rid of that strat for over a year. Its worth about $400.

This is my first experience with a Guild archtop of this quality. The cracks have been professionally repaired and it is set up with D-Addario Chrome 12's. It plays like butter. I am in awe of this guitar, even with the defects. The rest of the guitar is in excellent condition.

Considering the number of other misfits, orphans, and mojoed guitars I own, this one fits right in. Maybe I'll start a shelter for abused Guilds.

Congrats! If I'm not mistaken, that's a solid (not laminated) top so that may explain the cracks although the crack that's visible through the tailpiece makes me thing it took a jolt. For a great price like you got, I wouldn't be afraid of a well-repaired guitar.

Repaired crack or no, the equivalent of $1400 for that one is a HUGE bargain. Best wishes with it!

Great looking guitar. Nothing wrong with having a couple scars. Gives it a little character. Excellent score I'd say.

Thanks to everyone for the great responses. I still can't get over how cool this guitar is. I am now officially a Guild archtop lover.

According to the westerlyguildguitars.com website the top is carved while the back and sides are laminated. Nonetheless, excellent guitar!
