I seem to have a love/hate relationship going on with 12 strings. I love the tone/sound and how they look. I hate pretty much everything else about them. I've had boatloads of them over the years including a D 25-12, D 55-12, F-112, F-212, F-212XL, F-312 Braz RW, a few F-412's including a couple Custom Shop, F-512, F-612, a couple JF 65-12's and likely others I can't remember.

I ended up selling/trading them all. But, I still keep thinking I need a 12 string in the stable so I bought this 1983 D-212 on Reverb the other day. The guitar is in really nice shape. I love the tobacco burst on this one (1st pic is truer to the color than the 2nd) and the fact it's a bit smaller bodied and easier for me to handle than the F series 12ers. The action is low and comfortable with the Low E string height at about 5/64' to 3/32". It does have a long either scratch or crack on one side so I'll send it to Tom and have him go over it and tell me what he thinks. Likely needs a good set up and fret dress anyway.

I keep thinking there must be something wrong with me and anyone who knows me well would likely agree with that assessment. Not sure if I'm, insignificant, insincere, in denial, incompetent or incontinent but if I had to pick one of the "in"s it would likely be incompetent.

Anyway, here's my new addition.

Great find Richard! and I love this quote of yours and totally am in same boat:

"I seem to have a love/hate relationship going on with 12 strings. I love the tone/sound and how they look. I hate pretty much everything else about them."

when someone suggests to me I need a 12 string too, I typically answer: "But what do I do with the 6 superfluous strings?" lol

I don't know, Richard. 12-strings aren't for everyone. For me, the bug bit a long time ago, and I've been able to get my hands on some of the most playable 12ers around over the years. Back in 1981 I spent a whole summer working in an electronics store just to save up to buy a new 12-string. I think the fact that I worked so hard to own one and it was so unusual (none of my friends played 12ers), probably colored (in a good way) the whole experience for me. I was certainly very lucky to find my Series-I Ibanez AW-75, which is a fabulous mahogany dread, and (to me, at the time) sounded and played better than the Martins and everything else I compared it to at the time. I remember thinking the Ovations were super-cool, but I'm glad I didn't buy one of those because in retrospect I've never been comfortable playing those seated. My performance hall was the cinder-block stairways of my college dorm rooms. A 12-string can rock you soul, but again it's not for everyone.

Anyway, I hope the D-212 becomes your keeper, but you've certainly had enough experience to decide if it still doesn't do it for you.

Congrats Richard. I hope this one works for you. I do love the look of the darker bursts. If not at least it helps you continue your quest of trying every Guild production model !

This I can't understand. It's just love, love, love for me. Hopefully this little 212 will do it for you. Gotta love Guild 12ers!
