Reason against buying this: I don't need another guitar! Reason to buy: I don't have a Dread
Reason against buying this: I don't need another guitar! Don't have a Westerly 12
Reason against buying this: I don't need another guitar! Don't have a black acoustic
Reason against buying this: I don't need another guitar! It doesn't sound like my other 12 strings
Reason against buying this: I don't need another guitar!

So after going over the pro and cons, I came to the logical LTG conclusion:
D212-12a.jpgd212-12b.jpg

How could I not on Roger's birthday!
The best part--no photos on Craigslist...I think because of that I was the only one to enquire about it. He drove up to my shop to meet me and was playing the guitar for an hour in a chair before I could get there and his hair was almost as long and white as mine. Saddle a little low, but the action is perfecto!
Couple of very tiny pencil dings on the back, a little crazing in some spots, faint tobacco odor, the label is gone but the neck block stamped 1981. I of course promised that should I ever lose my mind and wish to sell it I would contact him first. I lost my mind when I joined LTG, so...

Wow that guitar has a lot going for it! I love the light stripe in the fretboard and light colored bridge, it goes so well with the black! And how did he keep that black from getting marked up all these years?

I have a D212 in natural, owned since new in 1981. I think you will enjoy yours as much as I have mine! Congratulations.

So as far as I am concerned--this is what it is all about:
"Scott, I just wanted to say thanks and I'm feeling good about Bob's Guild going to you - Michael"
I received this, this morning from the former owner. I had told him when we concluded the transaction that I understood his regret in selling the Guild as
as far as I was concerned musical instruments have a life of their own, at least a personality, and one can connect with them far more than say an ice maker
or sofa. Cars count as having souls too--at least if they are Studebakers!

A bit of sleuthing:
The person I got the guitar from got it from his friend Bob Starr, and I found this on Starr's Facebook page--

also has a sound clip of him playing it...from 2009 just after he got it.
Mr. Starr evidently played quite a variety of instruments and has a page on Reverbnation.
