My first acoustic was a Guild I bought at GC around 95. It was a new floor model D something or another CE. I have been trying to recall the model. It’s quite frustrating because I committed it to memory for many years. The USA model listed for
$2500, had a spruce top, and hog or RW sides and back. It was arched in the back. Anyway they gave me a great deal on it. It was such an amazing guitar. Had to sell it along the way. The sound of that guitar was unforgettable.
Well fast forward many years to this past month, and I picked up my second acoustic: a 65 F-30 burst with hog back and sides, spruce top and a sweet smelling RW fretboard. Dare I say Brazilian?
I knew it wouldly need work at $650: A headstock crack was repaired along the way. It had a few other issues I wasn’t aware of initially (Reverb). It seemed likely worth it, so I had a luthier go to work... the nut built up on one string, a brace repaired, the (unknown, grayish) saddle re seated and re routed, a new bone installed and the guitar set up and 50 years of funk and gunk removed. The frets are original, but they have some denting (known issue) near HS that does not effect play. Plenty of life. Action is low. It sounds amazing. I have some EB light strings on there. No buzz anywhere. The finish has some minor scratching and scuffs on the body and the neck reflects a lot of play.
I’m in it for $1000, including a nice new case that it fits perfectly. The repaired headstock doesn’t bother me. I’ve got my own repairs that have come along the way.
This is an amazing forum. I don’t know how to add pics though.
