Well here is my new to me and old to 2nevets Guild Custom Shop Mahogany Starfire IV with 3 P90 pickups. I couldn't see Peto having it in a closet forever. As you can see in the photos My maple Starfire III-90 has finally found that special someone. The SF4 is amazing in tone, play ability, and Looks alike. Bottom line, IT JUST SCREAMS! The pickups go from syrup saturation to Texas Swing Twang and all places in between. I'm going to give the SF4 a day to settle in and then I'm going to lock them in the room alone together with some mood lighting. Maybe if they rub on each other enough I can get some baby P90 Starfires!

I came so close to buying that so many times.

Now that you don't need the SFIII any more, you can just send it right over to me. That would be great. Thanks. :)

Beautiful guitars!

Thanks LA! Did your deal workout on the Black 77 Starfire V?

Man, what a mess that turned out to be.

But it is staying in the family. Our own 2Nevets finally was able to get the seller to deal. He'll be posting a NGD thread any time now.

Sorry to hear that it didn't work out but at least it is staying in the family, I'm sure you will have a shot at it sooner or later.:pride: I already have another Starfire V on the way or I would have been in on that deal. I picked up a mint 2000 Westerly Starfire V with Guildsby that is a natural finish with spalted and flamed maple top, sides, and back off of reverb. It will be here next week.

And GAD, Thanks for the compliment and if I ever have to split them up I will make sure and let you know.

Thanks to everyone for responding to the thread!

So how's that 3-P90 Starfire play and sound? I would think that middle P90 would drive me nuts while playing, but I bet it sounds divine.

I was worried about that at first but with the way the pickups are mounted with staggered height it doesn't get in the way at all. Finger picking or flat picking it works Great. I may wind up pulling the pickguard off as it is almost at the same level as the strings(a bit annoying). As far as the sound goes it's amazing. The Guitar acoustically has a Piano like clarity that transfers very well to plugging in. All of the pickups have a very "Crisp" tone to them. You can get some deep bass tones out of the neck pickup, Middle is rich but balanced, and the bridge is pure Twang "Ghostriders in The Sky" style. Then you have the secondary switch which when engaged allows you to have "Strat" style combinations of the pickups or all three. I gave Peto considerably less than what he was asking on ebay for it so I think I made out good. Only thing I had to do to it was put a nylon shim washer under the Bigsby Spring to make it come back to Neutral more consistently and it plays like butter with 11's.

Great write up.

I love the look of the P90s on that Starfire. I've never been a fan of the way dog-ear P90s look, but man, do I love the way they sound.
