Had one a while back I foolishly let go... feeling the Westerly itch I made an impulse buy via GC online. 3 days later it's on the porch. Not too cold out, case not cold, I went ahead and opened her up. As advertised. Seam separation on the top, missing heal cap, one top ding. I cut a new bone saddle, replaced the heal cap with a piece of pick guard I cut to fit. The truss cover was missing a screw on the nut side, and the hole where it would go had a chip in the wood, so nowhere to put a screw. I cut new cover from a black plastic Frisbie that sits flush on the nut, so the top screw is enough. Two things I've noticed in this "E" that are different from other D4's I've seen. The saddle slot is much wider, and the head plate is black. The pickup actually sounds much better than I expected...didn't expect it at all really as it was not advertised with one.
Neck angle, frets all good. Hard case a little beat but functional. Sounds killer, super loud and midrange punchy. Thought ya'll would enjoy!

I looked at this same guitar! And I'm still (maybe) trying to track down an affordable D4.

That pickup is probably a Fishman Matrix, which I think, with the right preeamp/eq, are pretty great pickups.

My story is similar. I sold off a DCE1 years back (it really needed neck reset, and the truss rod also wonky), but I missed it. And then picked up a DV4, which I liked, but didn't quite have same vibe.

This time around I started looking for an affordable North American made all solid wood, but somehow I'm look at D4s.

I believe the Matrix is active, this one is passive. Sounds good in my Loudbox and the signal is plenty hot. Been playing it a lot the past few days. Its waking up nicely and plays great...get the feeling it's been in the case for a while. Frets are like new. I've seen some crazy asking prices lately on D25's, D4's, really all of them. But reasonable deals are still out there. This one will be the perfect music Fest guitar, if we ever have those again.

Both of my Guilds are 1994. Your D4 is sharp and clean as a whistle!! I'm sure with you playing it, you'll notice that 26-27 year old guitar blossom into a super sounding classic Guild!! Congrats, bronzeback!! (y)

You ain’t lying! I keep on seeing people asking nearly $1000 or more for a D-25. I paid just south of $600 for mine and it’s a killer guitar. BUT if you’re patient you can find a D-25 THATS perfectly playable for under $700.

Agreed. The last D4 I owned a couple years ago I had a hard time getting $400 for it on local CL. This one was 480, plus tax and shipping so about 535. Fair in my book, but not the best deal I've ever got.

The prices have been killing me. I sold a DV4 for around $400 a couple of years ago. And now I can't find a D4 for under $600 . . . except for the one you smartly bought!

The neck angle is surprisingly great on yours. That can be hit or miss Guilds from that era.
