My G212 wasn't quite working for me, nice to play but very little low end so I started looking for a 12-string with more oomph and was very fortunate to find this F212XL on CL. I love the sound of this thing, very nice highs, mids, and lows. The top has quite a lot of bear claw which looks very pleasing in person but appears a little odd in photos. The owner told me it was once owned by Graham Nash but had no documentation to prove it. Fortunately, he did not charge me a premium for the Nash connection, the price was very fair : ) And yeah, I know the TRC is upside down. It will be going to the luthier for a setup soon so I'll have him correct that! Overall the guitar is in really good shape, nice neck angle. The only issue is a teeny bit of lift on the bridge so I will probably have to get that re-glued.

NICE!! That top has a bit of character!! I like it!!! (y)(y)
Thanks Tom! Yeah, the bear claw is a fairly even pattern when you look at the guitar in person and it's pretty pleasing and definitely has some character. For some reason it shows up irregularly in photos and doesn't look so good.

Looks great love the grain. I had recently purchased a 1979 F212XL as well, it arrive a couple of days ago, I haven’t played it yet. That will be my first 12 string. I’ve played one a little while back, but only a few times. I really don’t know what to expect. I’m sure it’ll be like learning all over again.

So just how big are these? Are they like 17x5 is at the lower bout? They must sound killer.

Not sure about the depth. But what I saw was the early F212s had a 16” lower bout, and the F212XL was enlarged to a 17” lower bout. When I get to the shop tomorrow I’m going to measure everything.

i found that article again. Late 60’ F212 was 15 7/8”x5, in 1976 went to 16”x5”, then late 70”s went to 17”x5” as the F212XL model. Though not sure how accurate the article was.

Yeah, it is a really awesome sounding guitar. Plenty of sound but it's very clear and balanced. They are big guitars. Preacher Bob is correct about the dimensions, the Guild Book confirms that the F212XL body is 17"x21"x5". The neck is also big as you'd expect. I don't have calipers but the width of the neck of my guitar at the nut is 1- 13/16"
