This arrived yesterday. So this is the one I was originally wanting to buy. I think he had it priced $1400/1450 and I was going to offer $1200 figuring he would counter with $1300.
Then the price jumped up. Then it seemed to disappear but I couldn't see that it had sold so I figured he'd decided not to sell. Periodically it would reappear
at the higher price only to vanish again. This weekend I saw he'd dropped the price to $1300 and seeing gas in California was approaching $7.00 a gallon
I reasoned as long as I'm not driving as much, another guitar I don't need was the perfect hedge against inflation.
It's gorgeous, sounds fantastic and once again am convinced that 60s electrics are my favorites. I love the earlier asymmetrical headstock that my '63 Polara shares with the other earlier Guild solid bodies but this headstock with the maple overlay is a winner. Love those skinny frets too. And the volute!
The seller said he wasn't aware his listing would vanish from time to time--as far as he knew it had been up for 2 years the whole time.
I had to wait until dinner was over to open the box so I couldn't take my own crappy pics until daylight today.
This is SA 522--my other one that had been played extensively by Freddy Kruger is SA 538. On a search I saw another '67 with the serial # SA 545 that had a Mickey Mouse PU so I'm guessing the '67s with the earlier PUs are more common. Hans?
This has pretty twangy strings and I think I will put flat wounds on this to get back my Polara vibe from 57 years ago.
