Well, the F-40 I bought on a whim (with incomplete information...on Reverb...red wine was involved...) turns out to be Tacoma-made, a March 2007 model, right in the sweet spot for that era (after the folks there got the updated models down to a science, but before they knew their days were numbered). I knew it the minute I opened the case and the lid flopped wide open, just like my gone-but-not-forgotten ‘07 F-30’s did. Made me laugh out loud.

The guitar is in miraculous shape for having been a professionally-gigged instrument (the previous owner is a Nashville based singer-songwriter and fingerstylist who had purchased the Guild at Carter’s). It still had some schmutz on it where the artist had taped a bunch of song lyrics on the front and back of the guitar for a music video. As the cleaning of the guitar proceeded, just about every cosmetic imperfection magically disappeared, leaving behind a very clean instrument. Couple of tiny dings, if you look hard enough.

I was a little concerned about saddle height, until I placed a straight edge on the fretboard and it met the bridge precisely at the top. The action is super low, so low that I may have to have to get a new, taller saddle for my heavy-handed playing style.

I put a set of Tony Rice Retro monels on it, and wow. I am blown away by the tone and volume. It hangs in there with my Huss & Dalton dread, which is the loudest guitar I have ever owned. I will try to record a clip this weekend.

Is a host site still required to post photos?

Congrats Neal! I’ve been temped more than once to get one of those, even made a couple offers. Other than not having a 1-3/4 neck to me the really seem to be the perfect combination of size, materials, workmanship, and value for what they deliver. Looking forward to the pics.

Major congrats and HNGD! Yeah, attaching photos is easy now (thanks, GAD!), so let's get some shots of that jumbo! :cheerful:

At first when Gad was doing all his magic, I didn't have it either. Something you have to do in settings. Maybe someone knows about that, we sure want to see your pics.

The back looks like a satin finish, is it? BTW I like it. I have an F47R and a F47M, both 2007, anyone have a comparison chart on F40 vs F47?

Ralph, the back is gloss. I caught it at just the right angle to avoid reflections.

My understanding is that the F-47’s are precisely the same dimensions, but a half inch deeper at the end wedge.

I'm loving that stool. I've been looking for something like that for over 15 years and have never seen one for sale. If I didn't like you I'd hate you.

Hey, man, I might have strayed from the flock, but I never forgot my Guild roots. I just got distracted by these:

There he goes again bragging about his herd! Anyway, I'll soon be back to C'ville and check out his horde. I kind a thought he was over his Guild disease, but apparently not.

Forgot to mention that the F-40 came equipped with a K&K pure mini. Plug and play.

it will give me another option for playing shows and open mics (presuming COVID-19 leaves us alone at some point and music venues reopen). Before now, the only gig-ready acoustic I owned was the H&D. I have resisted putting pickups in the vintage stuff, for posterity’s sake.
