Thanks to walrus for the tip that lead to this arriving today! It looks like it was played maybe twice. Post pics after new strings and action adjustment but so far I'm blown away!
Hi there, new to the forum!
Congrats for a great find!
Last month I found a 1979 f112 in great condition! Great guitars indeed. The only pb is that the tuners on mine are not original, and quite cheap. I'm looking for good tuners that would fit the existing holes in the headstock.
If I'm not mistaken, the ones on your guitar are not originals too? They look super reliable. In any case, if you guys have info on the appropriate tuners, it would be great help!
Thanks a lot!
(here's a pic of the current tuners)

I'm under the impression the tuners on mine are original, Japanese made. According to The Book, Guild started using them on the 12-strings after 1966. Mine look identical to the example on page 42.

Oh thanks. That means they're Gotohs ? or another brand?

I usually up that string in size a little.

Finding original tuners might not be that easy, what's wrong with these and how much butchery did they do to put them in, extra holes, changed ferrules, etc, you may not be able to go back, or want to.

Well, the guitar doesn't stay in tune for too long. There could be several reasons for that, but the tuners are moving super easily -like, they show almost no resistance at all, so I'm just guessing they're the main reason why...

OHSC with original goodies and key.
Wow, that case looks exactly like the one I got with my 1977 Guild Mark II, except mine isn't branded! (Though maybe with your 12 string case a prev. owner just affixed a Guild plaque, as I did with the Gator case I bought for my Martin.) Same plush blue, same bronze-colored latches, same fabric hinge design with the sewing in the middle So this answers my question if it was the case Herb David got with the guitar. Also, I didn't get the key for it, at least that I can find anyway. Also, some years later the handle broke so I had to buy a replacement!

I have a set of the Guild Japanese tuners that I was going to swap out on my 312 , but changed my mind. Missing some of the hardware. Two buttons on each plate have some play. I think I paid $25. Ping me if interested.

Super lucky with the tuners there ;]

For my money, learning to live with worn out old Klusons ages, these are pretty darn good quality tuners, and very lovely button shape, way to go Japan, they were mimicking Kluson buttons at the time. Hopefully the ferrules are all still original and ok, and screw holes not a problem. Done correctly, all unused holes should be doweled, or at least sealed with some type of finish.

My F112 actually sounds like a choir of angels, like has been mentioned elsewhere ;] When you get er going, and it's "humming" as I've heard these guitars can, it is unstoppable, and actually very pleasant to listen to, has fabulous tone.

A friend has the same year F 112, and it's my favorite Guild 12 string. He does the Kotke thing on his. Perfect balance for that style. 12 strings can get muddy quick, but not the 112. Sleeper of the whole line IMHO.
