I’d been wanting an S100 Carved for a while and a few months back I mentioned it in a thread here on LTG. Then two weeks ago our own John / Powerwagonjohn reached out to me that he had one he might sell. John lives not too far from me here in the Minneapolis / St Paul area. We had met before back in 2014 when he and I along with Thunderface got together to hang out and talk some Guild at my place. So this time I dropped in on his home and after a nice afternoon talking mostly Guild a deal was struck for his 1973 S100 SC.

This is my first Guild electric and my first guitar with humbuckers. Wow. The quality of hardware and overall build is exceptional. The neck is amazing; John has it dialed in precisely to a feather touch (original TRC is in the case).

I’ve always been a Strat, P90, single coil player. I’d always thought humbuckers tended to be muddy and maybe best for players with heavier rock leanings. Not so with these HB1s. They are very organic and dynamic played clean and low gain. Much better note definition than a P90 with these same settings. The HB1s play very well with pedals too.

Thanks John. I love it. It’s a keeper!

Oooh. That looks like a really nice one. You're right about those HB-1s they sound very clean and quite unique (spacey? chimey?) played low gain, not like typical humbuckers at all. Congrats and enjoy!

oooh man, that is gorgeous, congrats! HNGD! I was rocking out on my reissue s100 last night and I agree with you on the Guild HB1s, and I tell you, it’s a blast to play too, effortless and so easy to get to the upper frets. I would love to test drive an original era one.

Is that a D25 and a nice old maple back and sides F30?
I'm playing my '78 D25 and John is playing my '60 F40.

And at the back on the floor stand was my '69 Mark I. Now, that was a special guitar made of the finest mahogany woods; and I'm not kidding. I've never seen more beautiful hog wood as that used on my old Mark I and maybe it should be the subject of another post. I sold it reluctantly because the 2" nut was never going to be my thing. Here's a sample from the back:
