Hello:

My name is Max and I'm new in this forum. I don't know too much about Guilds but I feel attracted to them for a while (I've got a couple of Gretsches and a Gibson...)
Since long time I've been wanting one of those deep bodied archtop with one cutway and p-90s. I think this kind of guitar will suit my sound: kind of early electric blues, raw r&r and garage.

Vintage Gibsons are pretty nice (es-175, es-350...)but they have those crazy prices. On the other hand the new cheap oriental archtops look a bit...cheap.
Walter from the Gretschforum -member of this forum as well- pointed me towards Guild archtops. Actually they seem to be as cool as Gibsons for half the money.
So I'm searching in Internet. But I don't know nothing about the different models (apart from the Starfires).
Which Guilds have deep hollowbodies and p-90s. Are there a few models to choose from?
Can you recommend me some realiable online shops? I only know archtop.com.

Thanks a lot in advance

MAx

Hello Max, from New Zealand.

Welcome to the forum; you're certainly in the perfect place to receive a thorough Guild education.

You may like to try this link...........

http://gbase.com/

Heaps of Guilds to be found here.

A great many of these dealers are known to our members.

Someone will be along soon to advise you further, I'm sure.

Hey Max,

Certain Guild models had Franz PUs which look a lot like P-90s, but they have a sound all their own. They can get that bluesy growl that I think you're hearing in your head.

There are several single cutaway, deep body models that had them in the 50s and early 60s: X-150, X-175, X-375, and the CE-100. I'm sure I've missed a few, especially the exotic ones.

Some examples here: http://www.ggjaguar.com/guild.htm
As suggested by our kiwi friend above, search gbase.com for these models.

CE-100 are AWESOME! and nice 50s and 60s examples can be had for a LOT less than a Gibson from the same era.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

Hi Coastie,
Thanks for the link to gbase.com.
I'm checking it everyday until I find what I'm looking for.

Jp,
Thanks for all the info and that link.
I thought those white single-coils where P-90s, I din't know anything about Franz pickups. I hope they are similar to the P-90s because definitely is that bluesy growl the sound i've got in my head!

And the looks are quite similar to a Ce-100. Are those the Guild equivalent to the es-175?

I would guess that they were designed to go up against the ES-175, but the design is slightly different. They're both 24 3/4 in scale. The CE-100 is about 5/8 in shallower, a little wider at the lower bout, and to me just feels like a different guitar--a bit slimmer overall--and perhaps sound a little punchier, but still with the full rich resonance for jazz. They just feel right to me.

I've tried for years to find a gibson that feels right to me, but they just don't do it. I dunno what it is. I ended up with my first when I was specifically shopping for an ES-175. Read here:
