I am a new Guild owner, having picked up a brand spankin' new Tacoma-made D55. I went to the dealer with Martin on my mind, but walked out with a Guild instead. Hello, all! :D

Welcome to LTG ! Congrats on your new acquisition. I love my '76 D55. You'll love yours as well. Lots of fun stuff to read here and some very funny people with funny talk...

Congrats, Robin, and welcome to the LTG forum!

Which Martins were you A/B'ing the Guild against? I have an HD-28 which I really like. The Guild D-55 from Tacoma is a great choice! I played one of them recently and I think I'd've grabbed it in a weaker moment. ;)

Enjoy!

Man, every time I turn around someone is walking out of the store with my guitar.

Good choice to be sure and welcome.

And, whatever you do, don't listen to what these guys say about other brands; it's all string theory.

I compared the D55 to an HD28V and an HD35. The D55 sounded better (more harmonically complex and better overall balanced tone) to my ears and played more easily. I like the unique D55 appearance, too. But I still hold Martins in high regard. I just couldn't justify the extra cost at this point. Maybe one day I will buy a small-bodied Martin to compliment my new D55, although I am very happy with the Guild purchase!
