Hello All from Cape Cod.

Seems like a real nice place you have here. Glad to be part of it. Not only am I a newbie to this forum but also to Guild guitars. I am more familiar with Larrivee's and Martins and know very little about Guilds. What better place to learn!

I am lookong for a rosewood dred for around $1,000 and have heard that Guild offers some nice options. I have done a little research but I am still working on understanding all of the model designations. I am wondering if anybody could compare the DV-6 to the GAD 50. I think I understand the physical differences and the features of each, but am interested if anybody can compare the differences in the sound of each model. I don't have much opportunity to play a lot of guitars here, so I appraciate any feedback or input.

If it helps I do some strumming, (not heavy) and fingerstyle, but really want this guitar more for strumming. Thanks for any input.

Hey Joe, welcome to LTG.

I can't say anything about the DV-6, but I have played the GAD-50 and I thought it was a very nice guitar indeed.

However, in the $$ range that you suggest I would try to locate a DV-52. You should be able to get one for around $800 or so and it is an all round excellent bargain.

Even for up to $1,000, a used DV52 in good condition is a steal of a guitar. IMO, it is the best spruce top & rosewood back/sides option on the market even close to that range.

I'll "second" ("third?") the welcome and advice. If you keep a sharp eye, you should be able to score a used DV-52 in good shape for under a grand (I've seen them go as low as $850?). OTOH, I only paid ~$1100 for my '92 D-55 (spruce top, rosewood back/sides, a little more bling than a DV-52) in fine playable condition (some moderate finish checking is the only real cosmetic issue).

PS: whereabouts on the Cape? The wife's family hails from eastern MA. Every 3rd year, we rent a house on the Cape, usually in the N. Falmouth/Falmouth area. Much better for me to have the in-laws to visit there, than for me to stay with them...

Hey Jc, welcome to the Zoo.

Can't help you at all about what guitar you should buy because I don't know sh*t about what makes an acoustic any good. :(

I'm just here to feed Grammy straight lines!

Hey Joe; welcome from the Newsyland chapter.

Is this joker from somewhere near you............ calls himself the Caped Clod ( with good reason I'd say ), though I can't figure out where the hell he keeps his cape !

Moonlights here; we know him as Graham.

Thanks for all the welcomes and the advice, and the looniness! Sounds like Guild offers me more options than I thought. Looking forward to the research.

FNG - yes I'm on the Larrivee Forum too. Great group there as well.

Gardman - I am in Centerville (near Hyannis)

And no I have not seen that guy in the suit on the Cape, but summer tourist season is almost here so I'll keep an eye out...

Thanks again for all the suggestions.
