hi folks,

I'm pretty excited about my new baby... a 1960 Capri. Someone added a Gretsch Bigsby and some pinup stickers... it plays really well and sounds fantastic. I love it! Here are a couple of pics. The binding on the back has been replaced and a couple of inlays too I think. And the headstock overlay is lifting... but it's such a great player I'll probably leave it as it is (but maybe remove some or all of the decals). I managed to score an original harp tailpiece (thanks guildzilla!!) so that will be going on soon.

-> What do you guys recommend for a replacement wooden bridge?

Fantastic guitar, Sean. And thanks for the compliments about the harp tailpiece. Glad it went to you for this instrument.

Very cool Gretsch Bigsby. Put it up on e-Bay. If it's a vintage piece, you might get an excellent price for it.

Always get a second opinion before acting on my advice, but I think if you carefully heat those decals with a blow dryer, they will come off easily with no need to scrape or damage to the finish. It definitely works with stickers, anyway.

Re: a new bridge, if you want to be able to experiment more with different string sets (wound or unwound G string and/or lighter gauges), your best option will be a Gibson ABR-1 with a rosewood base or something similar with adjustable saddles.

Tough to find a vintage Guild rosewood bridge but easy to find new rosewood copies at reasonable prices.

Oops... I think I may have bought the wrong harp tailpiece. Are the tailpieces for T-100 and CE-100 the same? This is totally my own fault and should not reflect poorly on guildzilla who is the innocent party here.. he told me what it came off of, my own fault for not knowing what I really needed.

Judging by the screw holes in the tail (after removing the bigsby), I think I actually need the one below... the one I bought from guildzilla has a shorter mounting bracket with a rounded point on the bottom (note this one has a sharp point)... I had no idea! :D Can anyone show a photo of a '59-63 (approx) CE-100DP harp tail piece, and more importantly does anyone have one for sale?

Thanks!

I remember another thread about that. No, the t100 harp is for a shallower guitar.

Hey, I only just noticed that that Gretsch Bigsby IS a vintage one, that arm screw doesn't really show up after '61. (the philips screw head).
You might get quite a bit for that, it's the Bigsby that goes on the "holy grail" '59 Gretsch 6120 everybody seems to lust after.

Nice grab, Sean. It's seems like there still might be a few CE-100Ds with Franz PUs that haven't been snapped up by everyone here. To me, the CE-100s are just perfect guitars.

hi jp... I think they are fairly rare guitars. I used to own one several years ago but sold it. I'm always browsing through VG magazine, ebay, etc, and they rarely show up. The later ones are common enough, but CE-100DPs with Franz' are rare.

Sorry for the slow post on this one...I just had to chime in and pledge my allegiance to these guitars...I have one from the previous year and the neck is killer..some might think it too small, but I have small hands, so it suits me to a T. Very versitile tome-wise, as well. Love those pickups! Yours looks like it's in fine shape...give us a "post bigsby and post-stickers" shot when you finish! Gorgeous....

Dammit! How did I miss that one?
Leave it just the way it is. It's PERFECT.
I actually pay extra to get them to look like that.
