I'm going to replace my factory original Micarta saddle (maybe the nut, also) with either Bone or Ivory.

I've read nothing but good things about Bob Colosi's products, and figured I'd go to him for these items.

Anyone have any feedback?

I've replaced the saddle in a Martin HD-28 and a Larrive OM-50 with new vintage bone saddles from Bob.I've also ordered but yet to install a new one for my Larrivee C-10.Can't say enough good things about them,or Bob as well. He's very good to answer questions by email or just as easy to reach by phone.I highly recommend his products.

I've had very good luck with Bob's products.

I think Don, dklsplace, our esteemed owner/operator also sells some replacement saddle/nut blanks, which would work fine, but would take some more work to get them shaped and fitted. I would not do a nut myself.

Don's doing bone nut, saddle and saddle for me now. Gonna stick them in the D25. Very interesting what Don is doing with these things. I like the look of fossilized ivory, so Don's giving them a special look, but without the price.

I'd better let him explain his technique.

Oh, by the way Southern, I'll be replacing plastic in that guitar.

Did you send him yours West to copy West or what is he going by? I might get him to do a couple for me. I have new pins coming for the JF from Gordon Orth and I have Tusq pins in the DV, I should get new saddles for those.

I pulled pins, saddle and nut and sent them to Don. Interesting what he's doing with these.

Think it just had one little bead of glue. I took a screwdriver from the fretboard side and tapped it backwards towards the headstock......popped right out. I had posted my adventure here somewhere.....something like....."What Do You Do When Your Nuts Stuck".....think it's in "Tech Shop".

Actually Grammy, even though I did it that way, I think they recommend you tap it with a block of wood to keep from scratching the fretboard or anything else. Seriously, I think they just put one bead of glue on the to hold them in place. In my case, I didn't care if I cracked the nut, she was getting a new one anyway. Since the nut area had lacquer on it, I scored all the way around the nut with a box cutter to prevent pulling or chipping any finish.

Let me know what you think the difference is with the bone would ya? I may want to go that route with mine. I know Scratch sends all of his out for saddles and nuts when he gets them.

Graham...a bone saddle is a pretty easy installation, and worth the effort usually. They are pretty cheap, worth a shot. Some folks will argue that you probably won't get much sound improvement with a nut replacement, but I still would rather have bone. I have a couple nuts just waiting to find the right guy to install them. Little more complicated installation with the nut, needs to be done with someone who knows how to install it correctly.

A bone saddle blank is ten bucks or so, if you go that route, all you will need is some sandpaper and some elbow grease.

You haven't received them yet? I would expect you should have them by week's end.
