Just a plug for Robbie Robertson's new CD, "How to Become Clairvoyant". Very bluesy, great lyrics, great guitar work. Interestingly, I've never been a big fan of The Band, but I really like this CD a lot. Check it out!

+1 I think it's just as good as his first one, and that's saying something!

Thanks for the tip, Walrus. Been a while since we've heard from Robbie, hasn't it?

My then high-school-age son got me interested in The Band a few years ago and we watched Last Waltz together. A really enjoyable film with some really good music. I think The Band kicks, at least in during those concerts. There is a smoking blues number, I recall, with ol' Slowhand in top musical form.

Ordered this about 2 weeks ago from Amazon. They take a while to get here, plus the CD has to be 'inverted' so it works in the Antipodes. :)

In 'The Last Waltz' video, Robertson invites Clapton on. Clapton's taking the leads, as the 'invitee' status expects. Then he breaks a string. While it's being rapidly replaced (in background by roadie, I think), Robertson takes over to fill the gap. Clapton is one of the greats, but Robertson is just a visceral guitarist. There's that subtle difference between them. It kind of hit me when I'd watched it the second/third time.
If you have the vid., what you think? :?:

+1 on "How to Become Clairvoyant". Really nice CD with lots of cool guitar sounds throughout. Lots of Clapton content.

Did I miss an obituary or does Canada honor living persons by portrayal on postage stamps? (The U.S. doesn't.)

I didn't know that. I remember buying some US stamps featuring musicians a few years back (Elvis, Muddy?). It must have been after they joined the celestial band.

Fortunately, RR is alive & well (and living in LA).

This stamp issue will be the 3rd to feature musicians/singers. The stamps come in blocks of four, with the faces of 4 artists. This issue features RR, Cockburn, Kate & Anna McGarrigle (count as one person in this case :D ) and Ginette Reno. Earlier issues had Lightfoot, Charlebois, Mitchell, etc.

I've been racking my brain to think of other living folks who have graced our stamps (I'm not a real collector, but I occasionally mail letters). Lately they've featured plants, animals (non-human), artwork etc. The only live humans that have been on stamps have been monarchs (not butterflies)

I pre-ordered it from Amazon and they sent me a book by Nora Roberts instead. I returned the book and the CD came yesterday, and it is indeed a good one. :D

Speaking of former Band members, Levon Helm has a new one, Ramble at the Ryman. Haven't got it yet, but it's on its way. Levon should have a stamp, a coin and be appointed National Music Czar.

The stamps will be issued June 30. On or after this date, you should be able to purchase them on the Canada Post website (it's the "Canadian Recording Artists" series)

Note - this isn't the easiest site to navigate. If you have trouble, send me a PM and I'll walk over to my local P.O. and buy one for you! :D

The stamps will be issued tomorrow, June 30. They come in a block of 4, with one stamp for each of the 4 featured artists (Robertson, Cockburn, Reno, McGarrigle).

Each block has a cardboard cover, with one of the 4 artists on the cover.

Stamps can be ordered through the Canada Post website. I fear, however, that online orders may not offer a choice of who is on the cover. If you want a cover featuring RR, let me know & I'll get one & send it to you.

NB- July 1 is a national holiday here. I'll be away, with no internet access until July 4.

What do you celebrate on July 1 in Canada? Is Neil Young on a stamp? I don't know what goes on in Canada, although I love the place.

I got my Robbie R. CD from Amazon 2 weeks ago. I didn't know how well it would sell, but apparently its selling well. My take on it is interesting music, some bluesy songs, at least one rock song, some "Band" era retro flavor, and a few reverbed dreamy sounding hippy stoner songs.

Of course I don't have to imbibe in order to come to that conclusion.

It's Canada Day. On July 1 the original colonies amalgamated to form the country.

Well I can only imagine that you're all so busy living the high life, and makin love over there that you don't have time to mess with much else.

After all how did Burton Cummings and the boys afford to diss the "getto machine" American women in their anthem "American Woman Stay Away From Me"? Not an idea that I would care to champion, as it would be extremely counterproductive for my cause.

-Spose to be humorous, not political.
