Hi, my name's Colin. I'm 27 years old and live in OK w/ my wife and 3 cats. I grew up in Ft. Worth, TX and have been out in OK for the last 5-6 years. I was brought up around music, as my late father played drums for a band called Space Opera in the 70s. I ended up taking lessons from one of their guitar players, who's first "real" electric was a Starfire IV (first style) which he still owned. They were big Guild proponents and made some fantastic music w/ twin Starfie XIIs, one tuned in octaves, the other in 5ths. The two guitarists also at one point owned matching F-612s!
My father and I used to troll around pawn shops and music stores on a near-daily basis throughout grade school and Guild was always high on the "look-out" list. I've been more-or-less out of the buy/sell/trade game the last decade, but haven't stopped playing and enjoying guitars. Right now I have a new roots rock/rhythm/blues band called The Hook Echoes and am enjoying getting out and playing.
Ok, on to the gratuitous photos...

First up is my oldest Guild, a first year Starfire XII. As I recall, the S/N on it is in the 150-160s range. Good playing, clean guitar, in a standard finish w/ a Hagstrom bridge, instead of the all wood archtop bridges I seem to ususally see on these.

Next is my other Starfire, a '74 SF-VI. I haven't ever seen another mahogany one. This one's also pretty clean, aside from a little dulling of the parts' finish. Neck is maple, BTW.

Last is my fine, fine '94(?) X-700. This actually used to belong to my father and he got it NOS at a music store when it was probably about 5 years old. At some point in its long time of sitting on the store's hanger it became separated from its Guild case, so it's in a Gibson one instead.

Not pictured is a well-worn '72 S-100 in natural that's in storage at my mom's house in Ft. Worth. It's a light-weight screamer, though and, strangely (annoyingly!), does not have side dots on the neck, though the binding is clearly original.

Hi Colin, welcome to LTG.

I don't know how to break this to you, but those cats aren't real.
Hi Colin,
I will happily send you (3) real cats in exchange for your Starfire VI. They are all NOS, in mint condition, and have only been kept in my smoke-free home studio.

Welcome to LTG. Beautiful buncha Guilds!

It won't be long before you'll have some of us grilling you about the whereabouts of those 612s. Really nice collection you have there, I'd love a chance to play around with a SF 12er.....Steffan

Very nice group of Guilds. What is the proper term for a group of Guilds, anyway?

My wife (Okie) and I were out there in Oklahoma a few weeks ago, but we were rather rudely chased back to Florida by a late-season winter storm.

Welcome to LTG, Colin. Wicked gorgeous arsenal you have there. Thanks for sharing those pictures! The flame neck on that X-700 nearly has my monitor blazing!!!!! :)

Really great stuff.

Oh, and Steffan is right... Any hints on the whereabouts of those F-612s? Sorry, they've become kind of mythical around here. :)

DO NOT tell Q-Vart or Hammer where your Mom lives! They have this S-100 problem......

Apologies for the hiatus; have been a bit busy since yesterday eve. Played a show last night (took the SF-VI) sick, got home and in bed about 2:30AM up by 7 this morning. Actually feel ok today, though.

For the apparent lack of a multi-quote function, I'll attempt to address things in a random list of no particular order:

First off, the F-612s: I'm pretty sure that one is still owned by the orignal owner in Ft. Worth, and, if sold/traded, would have been w/in the last few years. The other was sold I believe some time in the 80s and is MIA. A rediculously oversized guitar, for sure! Those guys ended up w/ some pretty choice equipment at the time, including one of the very first Alembic basses, $50,000 in custom amps, etc. There's actually a pretty cool (but long) article here: http://www.rockandreprise.net/spaceopera1.html and music/samples available here http://www.itsaboutmusic.com/spaceopera.html

I do actually have real live cats, two brothers we adopted from the local shelter and a Long haired female that showed up at our door starving in the dead of winter (on my wife's birthday). The joke is funny, though!

SF-XIIs are very cool electric XIIs, whereas Ricks are king of jangly, the Guilds are more brash, agressive sounding and have a very comfortable neck, good low action. I'd actually like to have one of the later, large pickup versions, too, but mine's a good'un nonetheless.

The X-700 actually didn't look so flamed originally, and has seemed to stand out more over time. It's the slickest feeling guitar I own, hands-down. Has a huge, jumpy sound and a great out-of-phase middle position sound.

I got the SF-VI online in the pre eBay days of gBase/etc. I put a wanted, SF-VI ad and had a resonse from someone who was original owner of the guitar. I bought it based on some murky-looking photographs the guy mailed to me and didn't realize it was mahogany until it arrived at my door. It's very elegant looking though and has an almost purple note to the color. (I think the label reads SF-VI wal.)

The S-100 is all original, but quite worn, has the chipping on the back of the neck that some Guilds seem to get after a while, lots of dings, etc. and a glued crack along the jack area. It's solid though, a good player and I sometimes miss it, but am already beyond out of guitar space at my house in OK. (Norman, OK, BTW)

Think that covers most of it, ATM.

Nice guitars. Thanks for the pixs, and welcome.

Note to Board Administration: The new member orientation seems to be working well as we have had several "first posts" that included pictures.
