Hello and nice to meet all you fellow Guild lovers! I found this fine forum while doing some research on yet another guitar. After reading through most of this section, I'm impressed by the knowledge and positive helpful attitude you all have. I've always thought Guilds were underappreciated and in most cases superior to the big name maker they get compared to (ahem) so I'm glad to be a new member.

So, in tradititonal new member style, I must post my Guilds. I'll do so in two separate threads with a little back-story on each.

First up is my Red Blues 90 which I bought about a year or so ago off Craigslist for $900. I believe it to be built ~2000 in Westerly. Absolutley mint condition and a stunning guitar in every respect. Great case too.

Fits finishes, frets, style - man this thing has it all. Love the beefy neck, the big slab rosewood finger board, its acoustic and electric resonance. Just a beaut. The only thing I'd change about it is perhaps the SD pickups. I LOVE P-90s, but I find these to be pretty muddy or hooded sounding when run clean or just on edge through my old Fender SF amps. I read a post here of someone else with that problem and he was told to check his pot values. I think I need to look into that.

For now, it's set up with two gibson mini-hums as so:

and is actually a bit bright for my taste. I've also tried Gibson P-90's in it. A tiny bit clearer than the SD's but a LOT noisier (due to no reverse-wind) and still a bit muddy. Again, need to check those pot values and if they are fine, might spring for some Lollers or some other boutique P-90s 'cuz I just love the way this thing looks and feels.

And for my other Guild, I will have you check my other post - I'm just downright giddy about the thing! Stay tuned!

Thanks guys! Truly a superior guitar in terms of fits, finishes and feel. I finally cracked open the back and checked out the pots, but I still have no idea whether they are 250K or 500K - they are simply marked with a traingular logo reading "GCE" over a "Mexico". As I said, I've tried two variants of P-90's in this thing (stock SDs and some Gibson P-90's), and both sound a bit dark to my ears w/ lack of cut (unlike my SG Classic whose Gibson P-90's I really dig).

If anyone has any idea what pot values are for these apparently stock pots, I'd appreciate it.

Ah thanks for that. Anyone elses Blues 90 have pots with markings that look like this?:

C
G E
Mexico

edit: can't get C to center over G and E. The logo has a rounded traingle border around letters

Well, I just took the back off my red Blues 90 (s/n CL001941) and there is no marking of any type on the back of the pots. There's something stamped into the side but I couldn't get a good enough angle to read - and the effort that would have been required to address that exceeded my curiosity level...
