I wonder if there are two versions of this guitar out there and mine is an early model.

This must be the case. I'll bet the split was added after user/tester feedback on samples from an initial production run.

Thanks. One sometimes wonders if what's being said is communicating. Everything I've shared has to do with the Newark Street Bluesbird and HB1's. I did a short video of the pickups in action. If I figure out how to do so I'll post it.

See you at Floyds.

That would be my guess as well. Now I'm bummed that mine doesn't have that feature! I suppose I could add it since everything is right there to make it happen. That would mean prying it out of my daughter's hands, though...

I got an answer from Guild, and it's not what I expected. Well, actually it is, but I expected newer models to have more features, not the other way around.

The split coil feature was only used on our very first pilot run to test the full potential of the Seymour Duncan pickups. Unfortunately some of the pilot run guitars did make their way into circulation. However in keeping true to the traditional vintage spec, this feature was not intended for our current production. These pickups are capable of accommodating this push/pull feature but this modification would need to be performed by an outside experienced technician.

See my other posts. I know how push/pull pots work. :)
Sorry, I didn't notice the pot cavity pictures you had posted...I simply had watched the one video where they showed the function. Hard to understand they removed the coil split pots in the production run. How much money do they save by doing that...

Hey, guys, did the original upon which they modeled the guitar have coil split? It might simply be that they went in favor of historical accuracy. We know they started with old versions of the guitars to create the NS line.
